Betong, the land of Tengku Bantaqiah, is now facing an increasingly severe threat of deforestation. The forests that were once lush are now starting to disappear, replaced by bare land that is vulnerable to disasters. The loss of green cover not only threatens biodiversity, but also damages the balance of the ecosystem and natural resources that support the lives of the surrounding community.
If deforestation continues unchecked, the impacts will be increasingly felt—from water crises, soil that loses its fertility, to ecological disasters that are difficult to stem. We cannot just sit back and watch nature being destroyed for momentary interests. It is time to speak up and act to save the Betong forest before it is too late.
