Nagan Raya, April 19, 2025 – Allegations of legal violations in mining activities have again surfaced in Nagan Raya Regency. On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, a number of Members of the Nagan Raya Regency People's Representative Council (DPRK) conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) to the mining location managed by PT. AJB and PT. MIFA Bersaudara in Gampong Krueng Mangkom and Gampong Paya Udeung, Seunagan District. This mining activity is strongly suspected of not having a valid exploration permit or exploitation permit.
The DPRK delegation was led by the Chairman of Commission II, Zulkarnain, who oversees the Finance, Licensing, and Investment sectors. Also present were the Chairman of Commission I Heriyanda, the Chairman of Commission III Junid Arianto, and other DPRK members, such as Tgk. Khaidir Ma’in, Aris Munandar, Ali Sadikin, Saiful Thaib, Iradani, Wahidin, Rizki Yulianda, H. Ramlan IB, Muda Bahlia, Dedy Irmayanda, and Deputy Chairman II of the DPRK Said Syahrul Rahmad. They were also accompanied by Keuchik Panyang, Keuchik Saidi, and community leaders from the two villages.
The results of the inspection showed strong indications that mining activities carried out by the two companies were taking place without clear licensing documents. This raises great concerns about the social and ecological impacts that could be caused, especially since the area is close to residential areas, agricultural land, and community water sources.
APEL Green Aceh President Director, Rahmad Syukur, who has been actively advocating for environmental issues in Nagan Raya, made a strong statement regarding this finding. “If it is true that PT. AJB and PT. MIFA Bersaudara do not have exploration and exploitation permits, then their activities constitute a serious violation of state law. This is not just an administrative problem, but a form of environmental crime and the seizure of people's living space. The DPRK should not just watch, but must dare to come and take a stand and immediately report these companies to the legal protection apparatus,” said Rahmad.
Given the findings in the field and the increasingly strong public pressure, the Nagan Raya DPRK can no longer remain passive. The inspections that have been carried out must be immediately followed up with an official report to the authorities, so that the law enforcement process is transparent and fair. If elements of legal violations are found, then PT. AJB and PT. MIFA Bersaudara must be sanctioned in accordance with Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining, as well as other environmental regulations.
