Coalition to Save Tripa Swamp Unfurls Giant Banner, Demands Revocation of PT's HGU. Kallista Alam and PT. Surya Fertile Harvest II.

The Coalition to Save Tripa Swamp, Orangutan Habitat—represented by the Apel Green Aceh Foundation, the Women's Coalition for Protecting the Environment (KORJUANG), Region IV Forest Management Unit (KPH), the community, and the media—held a banner display in the Rawa Tripa peat area. This action aims to urge the government to revoke PT's Business Use Rights (HGU). Kallista Alam and PT. Surya Panen Subur II in the protected area

This activity highlights the need for firm steps from the central government, especially the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) and the Ministry of Forestry. Forestry Minister Raja Juli was also urged to act immediately to protect the Swamp Tripa peat ecosystem, which is an important habitat for orangutans, Sumatran tigers and other diverse flora and fauna.

The APEL Green Aceh Foundation considers that the solution to the Rawa Tripa problem has so far been half-hearted, even though the area has very important ecological value. At the regional level, the Nagan Raya Regency government under the new leadership of TRK- Sayang is expected to take strategic steps to resolve the HGU dispute that has been going on for years. Active participation of local governments is very necessary to accelerate solutions that support environmental sustainability.

Apart from the banner displaying action, there were findings of new land clearing activities using heavy equipment which were suspected to be taking place illegally in the PIPPIB area (Indicative Map and New Permit Termination Area). This violation increasingly threatens the sustainability of the Rawa Tripa protected area.

“This is an important moment to encourage the government and all stakeholders to act more seriously in protecting the Tripa Rawa. "The sustainability of this area is not only important for the survival of Sumatran orangutans, but also for local communities who depend on the peat ecosystem," said Rahmad Syukur.

Through this action, the Coalition to Save Tripa Rawa stated several demands as follows:

1. Revoke PT's HGU. Kallista Alam and PT. Surya Fertile Harvest II
Urge ATR/BPN Minister Nusron Wahid to revoke PT's HGU. Kallista Alam (520.78 Ha) and PT. Surya Panen Subur II (7,565.26 Ha) to protect peat and biodiversity.

2. Increased Protection Status
Urge the Acting Governor of Aceh and the Acting Regent of Nagan Raya to increase protection of the Rawa Tripa area as an important habitat for biodiversity.

3. Execution of PT Decisions. Kallista Alam
Urge the Suka Makmue District Court to immediately implement the decision regarding the environmental restoration of 1,000 hectares of burnt land at a cost of IDR 251.76 billion, confiscate SHGU guarantee No. 27 covering an area of 5,769 Ha, and a fine of IDR 5 million per day.

4. Execution of PT Decisions. Surya Fertile Harvest II
Urge the Suka Makmue District Court to implement the decision to restore the environment of 1,200 hectares of burned land at a cost of IDR 302.15 billion and pay compensation of IDR 136.86 billion.

This action is a form of solidarity towards environmental conservation. Tripa Swamp is one of the last bastions of the peat ecosystem in Sumatra which must continue to be fought for for the sustainability of animal life and the surrounding community.
