Nagan Raya, 8 January 2025 – The Nagan Raya Regency Government officially established strategic cooperation with the APEL Green Aceh Foundation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was held in the Nagan Raya Regent's Office. This collaboration is an important milestone in efforts to protect the environment, especially in the Rawa Tripa Peat Area, as well as sustainable management of natural resources in the Nagan Raya region.
This Memorandum of Understanding covers various strategic programs, including management and protection of the Tripa Swamp Peat Area, community development in forest and peat areas, environmental monitoring, as well as management of Grand Forest Parks (TAHURA) and Green Open Spaces (RTH). Apart from that, this collaboration also includes the exchange of information, data, scientific publications, and restoration of rainforest areas. All of these programs aim to strengthen our collective commitment to maintaining ecological sustainability and involving the community in environmental protection efforts
Another important point is efforts to save the Rainforest and Leuser Areas, which are home to various endangered animals, including orangutans. The Aceh Green Apple Foundation carries a big agenda from the Coalition to Save the Tripa Swamp Orangutan Habitat, with a focus on protecting biodiversity while maintaining the function of the peat ecosystem as a balancer for the global environment.
The Regent of Nagan Raya expressed his appreciation to the Aceh Green Apple Foundation for its dedication in advocating for environmental issues in the region. "It will be filled in after the meeting," said Acting Regent of Nagan Raya, Iskandar.
Director of the APEL Green Aceh Foundation, Rahmad Syukur, also stated that this collaboration is a form of synergy between the government and civil society in responding to increasingly complex environmental protection challenges. "We are optimistic that with government support, environmental conservation programs can run more effectively, not only protecting nature but also improving the welfare of communities around forest and peat areas," he said.
It is hoped that this collaboration can become a model for inclusive and sustainable environmental management, while strengthening Nagan Raya's role as a strategic area in efforts to mitigate climate change, preserve ecosystems and protect wildlife habitats.
